Artist Statement
For the longest time, I believed there was no real connection between my life and my art. I created what I wanted, when I wanted, simply because I enjoyed it. Artist statements were something I dreaded, as they seemed to contradict my belief in the freedom and spontaneity of my artistic process.
However, over time, I began to realize that everything in my life is intricately intertwined - myself, my art, the world, politics, emotions, nature, nostalgia, human existence, mental health, sex, animals, and even cartoons. All of these elements find their way into my art, shaping and defining its meaning.
Initially, I delved into portrait and figure painting, under the misconception that it required no deeper significance. A face was just a face, a body was just a body, and a breast was nothing more than a body part. Yet, I quickly learned that each person perceives these elements and their meaning in wildly different ways.
It was during a period of profound mental struggle that I began to explore clay as a medium. Straying away from the face, I focused instead on how the body itself could be molded and shaped, much like clay. In this dark time, I found solace and healing through the transformative nature of clay, as it shaped me as much as I shaped it.
Now, my artwork is deeply rooted in nostalgia, drawing inspiration from my own childhood memories, where my mind sprinted ahead of my physical capabilities. It grants me the ability to morph reality into an acid trip-like experience, without the need for drugs. These visuals and sensations from my past create a sense of familiarity and comfort, acting as a bridge between my present self and the vivid intensity of my younger years.
Through my art, I aim to invite viewers into this surreal and whimsical world, evoking emotions, triggering memories, and challenging perceptions. I strive to highlight the interconnectedness of all aspects of life - the personal and the universal, the mundane and the extraordinary.
In essence, my art is a reflection of the multitude of influences and experiences that shape who I am as an individual, as well as a testament to the power of creativity and self-expression in navigating the complexities of existence.
