ABOUT THE ARTIST
Hi, I'm Steph Kubish, a ceramic artist originally trained as a painter. I graduated from Endicott College in 2022 with a BFA in Studio Art and a minor in Education. Since then, I have delved into the world of ceramics, and it has captured my heart and become my full-time artistic pursuit.
One significant milestone in my journey was completing a residency at the University of Hartford, where I had the opportunity to refine my skills and explore new techniques within the realm of ceramics. Currently, I am fortunate to work as a studio technician at Wesleyan Potters, where I continue to grow as an artist and immerse myself in the vibrant ceramic community.
Although my artistic medium has changed, I discovered that the same core elements that drew me to painting still resonate in my ceramic practice. I am a detail-oriented artist who finds inspiration in the human figure, faces, and animals. These subjects have a magnetic pull on my creative process and serve as a recurring theme in my work.
My upbringing as an only child has heavily influenced my artistic expression. I find inspiration in the memories and wild imagination that fueled my youth. Combining nostalgia and realism, my aim is to ignite a sense of emotion and connection with viewers while evoking a sense of familiarity and introspection.
In both my paintings and ceramics, I strive to capture the essence of the subject matter, infusing it with my own unique perspective and interpretation. With every piece I create, I hope to create a dialogue between the past and the present, inviting viewers to reflect on their own personal experiences and memories.
